• I am getting married and I want to do all the planning by myself, I mean me, my fiance, friends and parents. I want to know what is a good wedding planning book? - June 30th, 2009
• I’m really hurt at my mother right now. We got in an argument this morning when I tried to open up to her about planning my wedding next year. Her and my father have been divorced since I was like 4 and I’m almost 23 now. They completely have no communication with one another and havent for the past 8-10 years at least. He didn’t treat her right and I know that because he’s not great with me but they’re divorced now! That’s that! This is about ME and not THEM. Basically now, his side of the family has lots of money and my mom’s doesn’t. So my mom gets threatened at the thought of him helping me because she wants to be the one to take care of it (which I understand) but I told her if he’s willing to help pay, I’m stupid to not take it! I still see my dad even though we dont have a good relationship but bottomline he still helps with college (along with my mom who helps b/c she’s on disability and i get a grant from it) and he helps pay my rent at school. My mother by far has done more for me but it’s my wedding and I want BOTH my mom and dad to be there regardless of the past. I think I’m entitled to ask for both my parents to be there this ONE day i my life. I talked to my mom and she totally flipped out that I’m inviting my dad and members of the family I know from his side. She said “Well, if he’s there, maybe I wont’ be!” just to get me upset. Then, she went so far as saying it’s the MOTHER’S responsibility to plan the wedding…( ummm…..and what exactly is the bride for???) I told her it’s the mother’s job to HELP the bride not plan the whole thing herself for MY wedding day. So I’m real hurt even though she’s acting like it never happened. What should I do about her control issues? The wedding’s not even til next May and already I’m getting jumped on by my mom about who I want there! - May 16th, 2009
